Our hormones are vital chemical messengers which work together and affect many different aspects of our overall health. If just one of our hormones is out of balance, it can lead to a variety of different health issues including weight gain, irregular periods and fertility issues, depression and severe fatigue.

Hormonal imbalances are caused by a number of different factors including your diet and lifestyle, stress and being surrounded by a toxic environment. Some of the main contributors to a hormonal imbalance are:

Some ways that we are able to start to naturally balance our hormones include making sure we are eating various types of fats. Fats are a fundamental aspect of our hormone production process and we should be making sure we are incorporating a balance of healthy fats such as avocados, poached salmon and extra virgin olive oil into our diet. We also need to be mindful that we aren’t overconsuming refined carbohydrates such as white flour, white sugar and processed grains as these types of foods have been shown to affect the balance of our hormones.
We should be avoiding trans fats and oils such as canola, sunflower and corn as much as we can as these types of fats are highly processed and can also affect the balance of our hormones.
Alongside nutrition, the importance of managing stress levels is equally as important in order to balance your hormones. Your hormones and emotions are connected and living under constant stress can really kick your hormones out of check. Taking time to meditate, journal or practicing deep breathing for as little as 5 minutes per day can really help to lower your stress levels and help with balancing your hormones.
