Herbal Remedies To Help With The Flu

It's definitely cold and flu season here in the UK with a lot of my clients feeling run down and exhausted with the flu. It's not ideal and can really make you feel like you have no energy or motivation to do anything!


However, it is possible to protect ourselves against some cases of the flu by using natural remedies which can boost your immune system. Even if you have been struck by the cold or flu, there are some things you can do to help you get back on track and feeling well again. Herbal remedies are a great place to start and can shorten the time you are run down.


Herbal Remedies


These herbs are great for protecting you from getting the flu or shortening the length that you are run down if you already have the flu or a cold. If you don't already have these herbs at home I would definitely recommend stocking up on them as they are a great addition to your medicine cabinet.



1. Ginger - Ginger has been used for centuries as a remedy for nausea which is commonly associated with the flu. Ginger can also help to bring temperatures down and reduce fever symptoms too! Making a fresh ginger tea or taking an organic ginger capsule will help boost your immune system and will reduce the time you are run down if you already have the flu.


2. Chamomile - Chamomile is great at assisting with sleep which is often disrupted when you have a cold or the flu. Sleep is essential for your body to rest and repair so having a good sleep is vital for recovery. Drinking chamomile tea throughout the day will calm your nerves and reduce any inflammation caused by the flu. You may also want to try chamomile in tincture form for a stronger dose.


3. Peppermint - Peppermint is not only great for your digestion, but it also effective at lowering temperatures caused by having the flu. Peppermint is also antimicrobial and high in antioxidants which helps to boost your immune system and reduce flu symptoms. Try drinking peppermint tea throughout the day to reap its' benefits.


4. Nettle Leaf - Nettle leaf contains a large amount of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, and assists with keeping the body hydrated and flush out toxins. Nettle leaf is great at preventing the flu from developing so drinking a few cups of nettle tea per day with assist your body with boosting its' immune system and preventing future flu development!
