Being a trained Herbalist, using essential oils has been a part of my life for many years and is something I recommend to some clients depending on what we are working through.
Aromatherapy is where we use essential oils or other plant aromatics to bring about emotional and physiological change within ourselves. There are many ways to use essential oils whether it's using a few drops of essential oil onto your pillow, as a fragrance on your clothes, mixed with a carrier oil or water to create a room spray or with a diffuser.
Aromatherapy is used to treat a number of conditions from insomnia, stress, headaches and many more. The main questions around essentials oils that I get asked are which ones are best to help you sleep better and de-stress, so here are my favourite essential oils to help with this:
Lavender - lavender essential oil is the most popular essential oil that is used throughout aromatherapy. Lavender essential oil promotes relaxation, helps to treat anxiety and gives a sense of calm. Using lavender essential oil before bed is a great way to wind down and prepare for sleep. Cedarwood - cedarwood essential oil helps to relax the body, improve concentration, ease tension and reduce stress. It also helps to promote sleep so is another great essential oil to use before bed or to reduce stress.
Clary Sage - clary sage is known as one of the most relaxing essential oils. Clary sage helps to reduce stress levels and promotes a sense of relaxation so is great to use before bed.
Sandalwood - sandalwood helps to reduce tension and stress. It also helps to improve your mood and uplifts you.
