There are ways we can boost the release of our happy hormones for us to live happier, more fulfilled lives. Small steps we can take to amplify the release of our happy hormones can improve our mental and physical health! The release of our happiness brain chemicals has a significant impact on our mood, energy and so much more. These hormones are serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin and endorphins.
How can we boost our happiness hormones?
Eat the right foods – yes, really. Eating the right types of foods can promote the production of our happy hormone known as dopamine. Some of these foods are healthy fats, nuts, seeds, quality protein, fruits and vegetables. Eating a balanced diet with all these types of food can improve not only your physical health but your mental health and your mood, too!
Get some fresh air. Getting outside in nature brings a sense of peace and relaxation which is grounding. When we take a walk in nature, the production of our happy hormone ‘serotonin’ gets released which regulates your mood and energy levels. Taking a 20 minute walk on your lunch break can do wonders for your health both physically and mentally!
Exercise is another brilliant way to boost serotonin and release endorphins. This can be walking, running, yoga, HIIT – find what you enjoy and stick with it! Moving your body helps you to feel energised, focused and in a happier mood.
Small acts of kindness have also been shown to increase happiness. Being kind helps to increase the hormones dopamine and oxytocin which help us to become happier. Simple things like simply smiling at the person you walk by on the street can increase these hormones.
Finish a task. When you finish a task that you started, it gives you a sense of accomplishment and purpose. It gives you a boost of dopamine and a little excitement which improves your mood and happiness levels.
