Activated Charcoal : DIY Facemask
Updated: Sep 29, 2019
Activated charcoal is an ancient natural remedy used throughout Eastern and Western medicine. It's a fine black powder made up of coal, wood or other substances like coconut shells which are burned and put through an extra high heat steam process which causes an expansion within its surface area thus making the charcoal ‘activated’. Activated charcoal works like a magnet to attract toxic particles within the body and then removes them; the process of adsorption.
Activated charcoal is great for your skin as it draws out impurities, pollutants and toxins through adsorption. It is great at detoxing the skin and is an excellent addition to your skincare routine.
Rather than expose yourself to an array of chemicals contained in conventional face masks which cause an increase in your toxic load as well as being harsh on your skin, try making your own face mask using activated charcoal powder (my favourite brand here)!
Simply mix two tablespoons of activated charcoal with a small amount of water and apply it to your face. Leave on for around 20 minutes and then wash off with a cloth and warm water. You can also add a few drops of pure rosehip oil and tea tree essential oil to the mask too for an added bonus!
